Are you saying you want to change your screenname, or remove your alias?

It's not possible to change your screenname from a messaging client, you'll need to register a new AIM name to change it...

You can also click the "Customize" button next to the Color Theme and List Layout in the Appearance preferences to make your own style...

Hmm, I don't like the way the beta looks as much as the current version (my icon -- which I don't want -- always next to my name in the contacts window, the minimal layout looks different, the lack of blue/maroon as a color choice, etc.). IIRC, it was implemented in a test build, but they didn't want to put it in a release because not everyone out there has the OS stuff (i.e. Tiger) to run it yet (as we're still supporting Panther)

As of the new beta (beta 15), if you have unread messages open, Adium will present an "Are you sure" dialogue before quitting.

There's also a utility that accomplishes *basically* the same thing (only window transparency, none of the other stuff that windowshade does) called Invisray (it's free ) http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/16500

Move the "Message Styles" folder from ~/Library/Application Support/Adium 2.0 to your desktop and then try starting Adium.

You can then try to reinstall message styles one by one until you find the corrupt one... That's my best suggestion
