Sounds like a corrupt .plist file, i think they are in:
~/Library/Preferences/

Try deleting those, and see if it helps

Edit: They should have adiumx in their names

Preferences -> Events

you can edit all the events, including sounds in there

View -> Configure Status sort...

That should do it for ya 8)

It's just the way iChat works really... i don't think theres much you can do to fix it, other than to not use iChat

But if you need to switch to iChat for a file transfer or what not, its not that big a deal to be signed off and back on really quick, IMO

you'll have to install Growl if you dont already have it installed

Well, I had the same problem, and i had to reinstall Subversion, available from the links on the adium x development page. the Tiger Versio of XCode comes with the Tiger installation DVD, its in the folder called "Developer" i believe

Sometimes, I've noticed that adding an AIM buddy to an .Mac list, or vice versa, takes a little while. Restart Adium, and wait for the server to catch up.

That style was broken with .8. I think Son of a Preacher Man, or someone else was working on the fix
