I remember a conversation about Smart groups at one point, which was very similar to this one. Can't remember the outcome though.

I have done a Mac to PC audio chat with trillian, it works, the quality isn't superb. But i am with Snarfer on this one, Skype has superior mac to PC audio quality. It's an excellent program.

Well, you would need an MSN account to add msn contacts

once you have your own MSN account, you will be able to add them

As far as windows alternatives, Try Miranda. I don't have a link to it, but people say you can make it look exactly like Adium with a few plugins.

MSN also requires authorization, so it could be the issue there too...

Hold down Command (Apple key) then click and drag the contact list. You should be able to move it.

Excellent, it would be so awesome if Adium was an approved client. This could also have something to do with iChat supporting Jabber in Tiger. Seeing as iChat is an "official client"

Well, you have an AIM account. Some people might not, and they would use the .Mac account to talk over aim

Try highlighting the text, then hitting Command-T and changing the text.

hmm, that usually unauthorizes Jabber contacts, and deletes them for me. Try updating to the beta http://www.adiumx.com/beta.html It has an updated version of libgaim that might help
