Perian is suppose to allow AC3 5.1 surround playback in iTunes & Front Row on MPEG-4 videos ripped from Handbrake, right? Well, the only way I got 5.1 to my receiver was rip a DVD with Ripit VIDEO_TS file and make an alias to Front Row. iTunes still can not play the AC3 track of my Handbrake rip...

Well, after hours of tinkering, it worked after a reinstall of Perian. What a nightmare Apple has made us go through.

I downgraded QT 7.4.1 and still no 5.1 DD playing MPEG-4 movies ripped with Handbrake "universal preset" in QT or iTunes. Perian set to Dolby Surround, Audio-Midi set to 48KHz. Terminal input "defaults write com.cod3r.a52codec attemptPassthrough 1"

Should I just revert to previous version of QT? I have stayed at QT 7.4.1 and ac3 passthrough works great. However I cannot buy or rent new content in iTunes as a result of staying at the older version of QT. But will your old stuff play? Do I have to downgrade Perian too? Or just QT will do? Thank...

Well, I tried it last night, no luck. In the Perian perference pane, I don't have a "passthru" selection. I have Stereo, Dolby Surround, Dolby Surround II, Multi-surround. I tried multi-surround and Dolby surround, no luck. What should I use? Should I just revert to previous version of QT?...
