Adium has been around for quite a while. In fact, there really have been two programs. One was just Adium, and was an AIM only client. I've been doing some work on blocking lately. It may or may not be in 0.8 (i haven't committed it yet).

Actually, 2.2 will be released soon. They've frozen features on it, and they aren't releasing new 2.0.x versions except for critical problems.

Preferences for this sort of thing are, like was mentioned earlier, forthcoming. Probably around the same time as we rework the way Adium handles status sometime in the not-too-distant-but-not-immediate future.
