Same issue here. I can see them when I log in to Yahoo! Messenger on my Mac, but when I log into Adium, all my Yahoo! contacts are shown with the default Y! logo instead of the icons/images my contacts have chosen. I checked the Preferences, but haven't seen anywhere these can be switched. Of course...
