I noticed the slow down immediately. Sending/receiving messages lags the program and causes the previous messages to stutter as they scroll to make room for the new ones, as well as delays doing general tasks such as viewing my contact list.

I have the same problem, but quitting and relaunching iChat (or Adium) did not fix it for me.
