Unfortunatly what you're seeing is an AIM status message, the compatability for msn personal messages isn't there yet, but it will probably come along with any implementation in libgaim.

Did you want any help on this? I'd be happy to have a look but only as long as you don't mind, I'd understand if you wanted to keep it something solely you work on, although I can't really promise anything right now-got my AS levels at the moment
