I guess I was being stubborn because I knew that one of those files contained the value for the alias as I was editing and making copies of the .plists and .xmls and it was inserting my name in other's accounts. can you break down the alphabet for me in some strings I can paste ...

yea...I figured it wasn't *really* encrypted, but it is encrypted to my human eyes. - probably should have read "insert cryptic sh*t here" ;P I am going under the impression that the value is set through the gui and is stored there as the NSData form of that string?

Ok...so I found out that the config files I was really looking for resided on the server. they are the users .xml files where people's contact lists/groups are defined.

It seems like it will be pretty damn easy to roll this out to a bunch of users with pre-configged user lists/groups.

I think I got it all worked out...now I just need to do some scripting....
