You would have to make a display that either sent that data to large type, or emulated large type. I don't think there's a better way to do this, what you proposed seemed awkward at best. Correct me if I'm wrong though,.

Oh you can do that in quicksilver. I did that in 10.4 with quicksilver. Address book in 10.4 also used the large type. Just type some text, hit tab, and choose large text and it worked well.

Remove the perian component and try it again. If it crashes again, it's for sure not Perian.

Perian doesn't handle wmv at the moment though.
