Well Adium can't do this yet sorry. I think it relies on libgaim (the core of Adium) which the Adium devs have little control over.

You can stop the name flashing altogether in the Events Preferences but I'm not sure how to stop it at a specific time.

These indicate the status of the contact. Green is available and I'm not too sure if yellow is idle or away. You can change them in the appearance Preferences. Hope it helps

Hmm i can't open it in Property List Editor, but i can in TextEdit. Maybe its not a valid .plist file then.

Umm the only thing i can think of is you named it the same as a set you already have.
What you have been doing is probably the best way to learn, just by looking at other packs and see how they've dont it.

It is quite easy really if you know CSS. Select the extra in the Finder (User/Library/Application Support/Adium 2.0/Message Styles) and then choose View Package Contents in the contextual menu. You can't make the tab flash sorry. You can do one of the folowing though:
1) The image next to the contact's name in the tab should change when you get a message.
2) You can set Your contact list to flash the name of the contact who has messaged you. You can do this in the contact list options.
