Re: Dock icon badge

Why not just display one badge covering the *total* number of new messages received. After all, Apple's Mail doesn't display individual badges for the total number of e-mail received from *each person*. I must say, I thought this was the idea already. Obviously that's where eevyl and I were having ...

It's an interesting change, huh - I'd always worked on the assumption that case was important, anyway.

Exactly what 0.8 is supposed to do with it I don't know... The code used to make the text scroll smoothly by some message styles is broken by OS 10.3.9, and by the forthcoming OS 10.4. That's not something that is likely to change, so unless someone can fix the code to work properly - or removes the...

Large number of messages ... then the badge becomes unreadable unless you have 3 icons in the Dock. Then what? It becomes just what it can be right now, a simple Dock icon state that warns of new unread messages. Umm, I'm not expecting several million - double-digits, maybe, but no more! that would...

That takes up a fair few more system resources, and adds a lot more screen clutter than a simple badge, though. Especially as we're specifically talking about larger numbers of messages here...

That was pretty much my guess, especially as 10.3.9 breaks all the same things as Tiger does ;)

You'll also need to copy all of the classes referenced in the html for the header, from the original style's main .css file into the main .css file of the style you're transplanting it into...

Does that make sense? ;)

A monthly top three in each category would be cool. That way it wouldn't change so often as to be meaningless... plus you get the benefit of highlighting all the different available X(tras). Best submit of the week might be a bit more workable, seeing as the moderators only review X(tras) when they ...

Of course, that has the interesting side effect that older X(tras) are deemed more popular than new ones.

How about taking number of downloads into account, too? Not that it really matters...

Scrolling problems in 10.3.9 are the fault of 3rd party message styles. Style authors are encouraged to properly maintain their message styles, specifically updating styles to version 3 and removing any custom BOM scripts unless absolutely necessary. You, or someone else, has mentioned this before....

To be fair, konfabulator wasn't the first. And neither was it very good... Not that the author won't be peeved, and I can understand it.

Only with that tab selected; with a different tab selected you have no visible notification of new messages (I don't think), you certainly don't know who sent them, and you have no idea of the participants. A well-implemented drawer could solve all these issues. Not that I use group chat much at all...

How about the "message" toolbar button? A click of that in the toolbar of a conversation window always used to bring up the popup menus for me.

Lookin' pretty sweet. The only comment I'd make is that the green duck distracts me from his rather more sober suit... though I can't think of a colour I'd prefer, so I guess that's not exactly a helpful comment :)

The primary reason I can see for having a drawer is to show the people involved in group chats. This is a fairly major drawback (no pun intended) to the current system; other than that, I'd be a tab man all the way.
