I seem to recall somebody inquiring about this before but can’t find that. I think the answer was that perhaps you could hack the message view to achieve that effect but Adium does not support this out of the box.

It seems the screenshot depicts the „Display“ menu whereas showing and hiding contacts is done in the „View“ in Adium 1.5.10.

There are different ways of auto-joining. "Reopen chats from last time“ would achieve what you are looking for (https://adium.im/help/pgs/Messaging-GroupChat.html).

Check out the „Do Nothing“ action.

There are no customisation setting for the group chat user list.

If you do not find the "Icon" toolbar item useful – or any other toolbar item – you can remove via "Customise toolbar…“ which you’ll find in the "View" menu.

Hi Strilo, Our developing resources have been rather tight in recent times and this issue is trivial compared to others on the plate. But maybe this is something I can look into when I find the time. Would you mind filing a bug report at https://trac.adium.im/newticket? I presume you are on Mavericks?

I am not aware of a way to turn off the search.

By „my conversations“, do you mean the chat tabs?
Could you please try and get a sample? It would help with identifying the underlying problem. https://trac.adium.im/wiki/Sampling has instructions.

For the record, 1.5.10 "went gold“ the day before yesterday.
