Yet another: Get GraphicConverter (it may have come with your mac if it's new enough). Open your image. Click the little wand tool with a "T" on it in the tool palette. Click your image's background. Save as GIF. Voila!

Yes, the default settings do NOT enable speech -- check out the Adium prefs (Messages pane, I believe, Announcer section) and enable what you want there.

No, there is no pref. I suppose a message style could hide them, but I don't know of any that do. This may happen in some future release though, whenever we get around to the Legendary Status System Rewrite (tm).

I really don't see the issue. Metacontacts are really a power-user issue, and I see no problem with having option-drag make this happen. There used to be one... it may still be around, but it hasn't been updated in a LONG time. We're working on better documentation now though, hopefully for the next major release.

Heh, you have a good point about $ vs. $$. Both can be used in LaTeX, but in general, $ x^2 $ is inline formatting and $$ x^2 $$ is display-style (on a separate line, centered) mode. Yeah, we don't do that right, but single dollar-signs would be tricky to parse correctly.

Yup, that has to do with some recent changes, we know about it. It's SVN, you've gotta expect some of that.

Incidentally, LaTeX is a math- and science-oriented typesetting language. For example, $$x^2$$ turns into a nicely-formatted x with exponent 2. It's REALLY handy for math-types (like me).
