If a person tells Adium to "send later" then they almost always want the message to be sent next time they see that person -- even if that person is already online when you sign on.

Preferences -> Accounts -> click the MSN account that you want to change -> Advanced tab -> add %_statusMessage wherever you want in the Alias field.

Yup, this is a truely NEW request! However, it is probably not likely to happen -- and certainly not soon. It would take a lot of work, but there is another good reason for it -- a different message style for group chats, which is really needed.

What version of Adium? What sort of internet connection? Does "disconnect all" work? Does this ALWAYS happen on ALL services?

Eh, I dunno.. I had a weird thought last night that, if a person holds down option, he/she gets the users dialogue, with a checkbox to enable advanced options, in which case a lot of options would open up. Actually, the others have mentioned how to back up your preferences -- that isn't the same as your contact list. However, Adium stores all of your contacts on the servers for your services, so anywhere you go, you will have the same contacts!

Right, this could be done -- we do have control over whether we send the "typing" message or not. We've heard requests in the past, and it's something we'll think about implementing -- no guarantees though.
