Sounds like it's QT. Apple violated their own specifications in QT for how AC3 works in several other places, so it wouldn't surprise me to find out that they did here too.

Correct. Though, be aware, the DPLII isn't quite on spec; since doing so requires a Hilbert transform and I didn't feel like pulling out my DSP book and writing one.

Open in a player that lets you enable/disable tracks. QuickTime Player 7 (pro) can, and I believe so can Nice Player. If you see the video track listed, and it is disabled, this issue has already been fixed for the next version.
