Re: Question on install notes...

These are codecs which have known bugs and will cause you problems. We encourage their removal because Perian replaces their functionality and in most, if not all, does a vastly superior job.

Make sure you don't have two preference panes installed. Check Library/PreferencePanes at the top of the disk as well as the one in your home directory.

Re: no ac3 sound in specific avi file (sample included!)

Seriously, seriously broken packetization. This AVI file packages about 5 seconds of audio together and claims it is a single packet of audio. Thats around 100 times too large. A quick run through avidemux with stream copy yielded a correctly packetized file that Perian played flawlessly. I'd call t...

It would be nice if future posters would check to see if anything's been said on the topic before posting.

Re: MKV support in powerpoint

X.264 is not Apple's codec. Sounds like Powerpoint's interaction with QuickTime isn't as it should be. We tend to use QuickTime player as the standard for playback, and anything that doesn't work when it does tends to be doing something wrong. MKV is a different animal in terms of how it works, and ...

Re: QuickTime X in Lion

Solution: Bug Apple about it until they fix it.
Since you didn't search the forums, here's one relevant thread: viewtopic.php?f=25&t=23504#p130425

Re: MKV support in powerpoint

Just to clarify could you answer: Do the videos play fine in powerpoint on Windows? Do the videos play fine in QT Player and not through powerpoint (assuming you have access to the mkvs themselves)? The audio always plays, but only for 1-2 seconds, correct? Do you have other mkv components installed...

Re: 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) No Subtitles

Most likely, you have some other component installed that's overriding Perian in reading the avi file. Please read on removing obsolete components: http://www.perian.org/#support

Re: Can't User DivX Videos with Perian in PPC Mac

Is it possible for Perian to add in a PPC DivX codec so all we using PPC Mac can play the DivX formatted videos? Thanks. File formats: AVI, DIVX, FLV, MKV, GVI, VP6, and VFW Video types: MS-MPEG4 v1 & v2, DivX,.... If you're having issues, remove the the divx codec as it's documented as being v...

So, melgrowl, you just cannot read can you? You wondered why I locked this topic in the tirad you sent me via pm. Re: Video Title showing in quicktime

More likely that not, you have a subtitle that says "DDR" and lasts the entire movie. Handbrake, iirc, drops subtitles by default.

Re: Perian 1.2.3 Won't Play .avi-Xvids videos out of Quicktime

But how were you able to tell it was an .flv file? file, in terminal. Even in the Get Info window, the Kind of file is identified as .avi. GetInfo is brain-dead. It just looks at the extension / mime-type. why will Quicktime using Perian not do the same? too complicated to be worth explaining here.

Re: Perian 1.2.3 Won't Play .avi-Xvids videos out of Quicktime

Nothing wrong with Perian; nothing wrong with the file. It is an flv file. Rename it: take off the .avi, change it to .flv, open the file. This file in not DivX nor is it Xvid. The codec used is H.264, the file format is flv. While the audio is MP3, that's the only similarity with the so-called divx...

WRONG. Perian replaces the functionality of this codec, it does not include it.
The site has explicitly stated that you should remove this codec for years: http://www.perian.org/#support
