Re: 5.1 to Stereo ... Mac vs AppleTV

I made it save a reference movie because I didn't want to overwrite the original, it's fast, it is easy to generate a self-contained movie from it. Since this is mostly for testing purposes anyway, it fits the bill here. Your main ATV will need Perian (specifically, the A52Codec) installed before it...

Re: 5.1 to Stereo ... Mac vs AppleTV

Maybe I could write a quick QTKit tool that does this? http://www.cod3r.com/ChangeFourCC.zip It's command line, so you need to use terminal. It's first argument is the original mov/m4v/whatever file, and the second is where to save the new file. It saves a reference movie, but it should be sufficie...

Re: Green video when trying to play interlaced content.

Is their any known issues with Perian and H.264 interlaced content? Yeah, we've never played interlaced content. We always relegated interlaced content to Apple's component, which apparently cannot play this specific content. Interlaced content has to be handled differently within QT than progressi...

Re: 5.1 to Stereo ... Mac vs AppleTV

Thanks for this input - and it was me who posted on the AwkwardTV site - with a slightly different version of the same problem I was wondering if there was someone else with a large library of AC3 audio content that he wanted his daughter to be able to play. 1) I can't really afford the time to add...

Re: 5.1 to Stereo ... Mac vs AppleTV

The good news is, it isn't something you did wrong, per say. The bad news is it is something Apple did wrong, and thus it is difficult to fix. I responded to nearly the same question on the ATV hacking site a few weeks ago: http://forum.awkwardtv.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2291 Basically, your opti...

The free membership is sufficient (or maybe even just having an AppleID). I never paid for ADC, and I end up reporting a few bugs a year (which became a few a month since Leopard came out).

Re: Cannot Install 1.1.3 on Mac Pro

Apple's bug. Report it: http://bugreporter.apple.com

Open Library/PreferencePanes and manually replace it. If you installed Perian for all users, that will be /Library, if for only the current user, that will be Library within your home directory.

Re: 1.1.3 shows green video on H.264 but 1.1.2 works fine

However, since 1.1.3 was released all of the green video has returned, implying that Perian is somehow ignoring these codecs again and leaving Quicktime to play them. Checking the 1.1.3 changes I see this comment "Apple's decoder now handles Baseline/Main Profile H.264". This is probably ...

Does quicktime 7.5.5 with perian 1.1.3 play m4v with ac3 passthrough and actually have 5.1 and not jsut stereo? With the passthrough hack, yes, but it doesn't work with all receivers. I've tried all the versions of perian and even the plist hack which gives me the "helicopter" noise. &quo...

See where it said: Dec 29 13:33:51 michael-mahans-computer crashdump[387]: crash report written to: /Users/michaelmahan/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/QuickTime Player.crash.log There's nothing we can do without that information. In addition, with that log, there's very little we can do without the file.

BTW, get on the case of whoever encoded that file. The audio isn't compressed, and thus consumes more than half the file. It's a waste of bandwidth and disk space.

Re: Perian update causing issues with iChat AV

Starting with 1.1.3, we told QT that Perian does not decode H.264 for base and main profile streams. This means that QT will search for a replacement component, and find Apple's. It seems that iChat does something different and fails to follow this step. Reported as 6468101: http://bugreporter.apple...

Re: Perian update causing issues with iChat AV

I have not seen this. It seem that you (or someone else) is claiming that 1.1.2 worked, but 1.1.3 did not. Since there are not many changes in 1.1.3, could someone execute this in terminal and then restart iChat to see if it makes any difference: defaults write org.perian.Perian DecodeAllProfiles -b...

This avi has an idx/sub files associated with it, doesn't it? The subfile set is broken, please post it so we can test further.

In the mean time, in the preferences, turn off loading external subs and see if that helps.

Re: low fps with perian h264 codec

Try searching; your questions have been answered before. Also, 1.1.3 does not attempt to playback main or baseline profiles, but instead forces Apple's codec to play it (to the detriment of some other streams which Perian can playback well and Apple's cannot); so try it properly.
