Re: frontrow - subtitles dilemma!…
NOW perian devs might say: thats a frontrow problem - address apple (but we all know that apple like any company gives a s**t if they either don't make a buck or don't fear to loose one) It is their problem and that's the end of it. Also, it is costing them money. I emphatically tell people do not ...

Re: 1.1.3 loads subtitles in FrontRow, but with a small glitch
But it's too bad this tools have to hack some kind of solution while the problem is really with Apple. Well put. This is why my experience with Perian and other projects has just about sealed my fate in Mac development as a career. I've learned that being at the mercy of Apple is a position that de...

Re: 1.1.3 loads subtitles in FrontRow, but with a small glitch
But, in VideoDrive, turning on the Front-Row compatibility breaks playback within iTunes. The real solution is for Apple to fix their code, so go tell them to do it: http://bugreporter.apple.com

but after following this link, http://geekwithfamily.com/2007/07/05/home-theater/howto-5-easy-steps-to-output-dolby-digital-from-quicktime-player/ You should be aware, his instructions are wrong . Re: noisy and scratchy sound after Perian 1.1.3 update
I said I had to guess at what you are actually hearing. "noisy and scratchy" isn't a very good description at all. And you added this: played back with a load and screechy sound That's still a lousy description. I can think of a whole host of sounds which fit your descriptions, which can h...

Considering how lousy your description of the sound is, I had to guess at what you are actually hearing. "noisy and scratchy" isn't a very good description at all.
You followed some moron's incorrect instructions for turning on AC3 passthrough, didn't you?

Re: Does native h264 playback work for MKV?
Since you have the source content, you can test better than I. If you open your MKV in QT Player, and save (not export), and play the resulting movie file, that is identical to the operation of opening the MKV on the ATV. Try it and see what happens. As The_Tick said, we are no longer interested in ...

Re: noisy and scratchy sound after Perian 1.1.3 update
Trash Divx. In addition, trash any AC3 components you have aside from the one Perian installs (AC3MovieImport and A52Codec). The others are buggy, and likely responsible for your troubles.

Re: mkv with subtitles problem perian 1.1.3
Likely because AVIs don't require as much CPU power as then tend to use a less complex compression. This is still Apple's fault, and there's absolutely nothing we can do about it till they fix Front Row. Go to http://bugreporter.apple.com and demand they fix it.

Re: Format information garbled in Quicktime Inspector
looks like a bug in Quicktime. The string that's inserted there is in the resources, in other words, doesn't execute any code within Perian to display that string.

Re: Does native h264 playback work for MKV?
Well, for some reason it plays 95% of the mkvs I get If I remux them into mp4 (without re-encoding the video)... (assuming the mkv is high profile, of which all that I've seen are) 720p main-profile, under the right circumstance will playback on the ATV. That's likely what you have. Want to test it...

Re: converting mkv to mp4 issues
QuickTime issue. If you want to force the DTS track, try deleting the vorbis track. As per the passthrough, mp4 only supports passthrough in certain situations.
I must also re-iterate, be patient, we have other things in our lives and thus a project we do for free cannot circumvent our obligations.

Re: mkv with subtitles problem perian 1.1.3
This is Apple's issue. Tell them to support "graphicsModePreBlackAlpha". Perian has to use a hack which is significantly less efficient because Front Row, unlike the all of the rest of the QuickTime based apps, cannot support the proper method. There is nothing we can do about this till Ap...

Re: option to deinterlace during playback
I have a video that's interlaced. It plays back with interlaced "mice teeth" in Quicktime. I just looked and it turns out it is an mp4 file, so I suppose it's not a format that Perian handles, but not being a video expert I really have no idea about these things. I ran "file" an...
