Re: Does native h264 playback work for MKV?
This would mean we would start supporting 720p mkv in appletv more decently... Ain't gonna happen, ever. Don't waste your time trying either. The ATV doesn't have the hardware to play 720p mkv (assuming the mkv is high profile, of which all that I've seen are). It's processor is too slow, and it's ...

Re: Perian 1.1.3 Subtitle in FrontRow WORKS ALMOST!
I don't completely understand what you're saying. Do you mean, using .sub files instead of .srt files will solve my issue? No ideas for a workaround? Just that Perian handles different types of subtitles differently. When I mentioned the .idx/.sub, I meant the VobSub files. VobSub requires two file...

Frontrow isn't using 1.1.3. Force-quit it.nick.dima wrote:I have the same problems. The reference files in iTunes play with no problem including the subtitles but in FrontRow doesn't seem to work... the image disappears when the subtitles should start and I have only the audio track.

Try restarting Finder (force-quit).

Re: Perian 1.1.3 Subtitle in FrontRow WORKS ALMOST!
I'll blame iTunes then. Sounds like it is intentionally disabling certain parts of the file. Unless your external subtitles are .idx/.sub, the reference movie doesn't need the subtitle file anymore. Text-based subtitles are just completely imported into the movie file (it's just easier that way).

Re: option to deinterlace during playback
1) Allow users to tell Perian to deinterlace during playback in the same way they can tell VLC to do that. I realize you probably can't add any menu or preference options to the Quicktime player itself, but even having to go into System Preferences for it is fine in my opinion. Funny, Perian doesn'...

Re: Perian 1.1.3 Subtitle in FrontRow WORKS ALMOST!
By reference movie in iTunes, do you mean that you dragged the file into iTunes? If so, was it copying the file into your iTunes library? If that's what you are talking about, then iTunes made a copy of the file, and put it somewhere else on the HD. iTunes will not copy the subtitles, which means th...

Re: Updating Perian is impossible
Sounds like the issue was either the pref pane got installed twice (which is System Preferences fault, not ours), or it couldn't write to your home dir's QuickTime directory. Try running repair permissions just to make sure.

Does it fail if you hit uninstall, and then hit the button again (when it changes to install)?

Re: Major Problems Exporting from Quicktime
One of the big raves about Perian that I have seen in various places is that you can save matroska in other formats by going through Quicktime. Well, you can. It sounds like you are using the wrong settings or something. When converting MKV files, most use Perian to either save as a .mov file (whic...

Re: Major Problems Exporting from Quicktime
Welcome to the weak editor that is Quicktime Player. The deficiencies you list are in QuickTime's encoders and muxers. This is an area which Perian strictly doesn't touch, to avoid legal issues which may arise. The lack of ability to save a .mp3 is a QuickTime limitation. The lousy MPEG4 quality aga...

Re: Sorenson 3
Does Perian not play files encoded with Sorenson 3? No. I have a bunch of MOVs that use Sorenson 3 that play fine on my G5 but play with no video on my hacked AppleTV. That's because your G5 has a QuickTime component for handling Sorenson 3 inside QuickTimeComponents.component. If Perian does NOT p...

If all your issues are just that the flvs have H.264, this was fixed a while ago and will be in the next release:

Perian cannot cause this. This is either a hardware issue or a bug is OS X. I have seen such issues long before Perian even existed.

Now that is embarrassing, especially when the Perian dev team did so much work to make it easy to build Development and Deployment configurations.Mr VacBob wrote:Also that binary was compiled using Development configuration, so it might be quite slow.

Re: Perian 1.1.2 still does not fix subtitles in Frontrow 2.1.6?
Joe Doe modifed Perian and fixed it? Wow... How embarassing is this for the Perian Dev Team? Not at all. You would know that if you understood how open source projects worked. Developers concentrate on tasks that have a personal interest to them. None of the developers took personal issues with sub...

Re: Perian h.264 vs. QuickTime h.264?
1) Final Cut and iMovie '08 both will crash when doing an AVCHD conversion. Oh really? Considering the fact that this was resolved several versions ago, this argument is completely invalidated. If you have evidence to the contrary, give it (crash log). 2) New MacBook and MacBook Pro systems have Pu...
