Re: Where Did the AppleTV Perian Installer Go?

In addition, Apple seems to be intentionally breaking third party plugins in the latest version of ATV. The three major plugins for the ATV that actually use Perian were very close to suspending development in response to this, negating any use for Perian on the ATV.

Re: Strange problem when encoding for AppleTV

Just to be paranoid, look in Library/QuickTime (for both the Library on the root of the disk, and in your home directory). Make sure there's nothing in there that shouldn't be in there. But yeah, it sounds like an issue with compressor. Open the .m4v in QT Playing, and show the movie properties. See...

Re: Front Row 2.1.6 is out - does not fix subtitles bug

it's not enabled because it plays badly and looks worse Which is exactly why we didn't do their method. Make no mistake, this is a bug in FrontRow !!!! Go to https://bugreport.apple.com/ and demand that Apple fix it. The plain and simple fact is that FrontRow is compositing multiple tracks after it...

Correct assessment Mr. VacBob. The pref pane should have told you something along the lines of Perian is out of date, or installed twice. The app you sampled is not using 1.1.1.

Re: Does v1.1.1 still preload the entire xvid file?

Open Activity Monitory, click on QuickTime Player, and during this high cpu usage time, hit the little "Sample" button in the toolbar. That should tell you quite quickly what is going on during that time. Also, if it is inside Perian's code, post the relevant info in trac.

Re: Perian 1.1.1 breaks MKV support

1.1 has always been, and likely always will be available. Look at the download link for 1.1.1, and change it to 1.1, and it will work.

You say it is broken, how?

Re: mpeg2 playback

The website states quite clearly that we support "MPEG1 & MPEG2 Video". The file format is another issue entirely, one we need Apple to do something about first (QuickTime is design in a way as to not support it). You need to save the data in another file format, such as mov. Alternati...

Re: Can't Perian decode MPEG2 files?

if it can't play mpeg2 files whats the point? MPEG video can be, and is, used outside of the MPEG container format. The website, quite clearly, states "MPEG1 & MPEG2 Video". We can do very little about the file format until Apple does something to fix QuickTime to support it. Their ow...

Re: Bug report to Apple (Front Row problem with multitrack vids)

Just a quick thing: I found out, through certain channels, that the number of times a bug is report helps Apple to prioritize them. Though, I wouldn't encourage people to report it multiple times, I would encourage everyone who has seen this to report it. When you make the report, mentioned the dupl...

I was testing .ac3, avi, and mkv, along with .mov files not made by handbrake or apple. I skipped the last two due to the aforementioned bug.

Handbrake m4v (H.264 + AC3) rdar 5799879 (opened March 14th, no response from Apple). That's the problem, in it's entirety. Here's the text: The channel layout used by QT's built in 'eat ' 'ac-3' is inconsistent with Core Audio's default channel layout. From: http://developer.apple.com/documentatio...
