I'm using AIM almost exclusively, with one or two Google Talk contacts.

For what it's worth, I have this problem as well. I just switched from a PowerBook to a MacBook Pro; the former retrieved the buddy icons, while the latter does not.

My original reason was that iChat didn't allow me to have a profile, and the third-party hacks for getting one were unreliable at best. Then I realized that Adium is awesome.

I have Adium set to display Address Book pictures for users without buddy icons. When it grabs one of those images, though, it's ABSOLUTELY GINORMOUS. It's about twice the size of the real buddy icons that my other contacts have. Is there a preference for this, or is this a bug (or feature )?

If you need to do a file transfer, sign on to iChat or AIM for a few seconds and do it. No big deal. I'm sure the Adium devs won't lose too much sleep over it.

A 24-hour clock is settable in the International preferences. And there too there's probably a "Display AM/PM" option. In Adium, in the Message View pane, there is an option to display AM/PM or not. I think what FredAkbar meant is that the logs used to always use a 24-hour clock, and now ...
