Or if you mean moving the contact list itself, then hold Command and drag it, if you're using a borderless list (the kind without a title bar and such). This will most likely be changed in the next version (.8) so that you won't have to hold Command.

That sounds good to me, strifer. Start out with the very basics (Adium is an instant messenging (is that even a word? I know messenger is, but messenging?) client), then in the second sentence, talk about multi-protocol.

I guess that "xwiki" site will do, but Evan (and others) might have been thinking of an actual wiki (that site is just a wiki lookalike). That site has more of a commercial feel to it, whereas with a real wiki site (which I would prefer) it's clear that it's just a source for information. ...

When you're connecting, you want to use the email address that you used when you signed up to MSN/.net/Passport (it's called various things). So yeah, your username should end in @hotmail.com (though not necessarily), and use the password that you would use on on MSN Messenger. Once you're connected...

As I learned it, if it starts with a vowel you actually add "hay." So: Ihay amhay uentflay inhay Igpay Atinlay. (And I am, actually, can speak it at full speed.) Heh, the way I learned it in third grade (in an elective-style class where we had a separate teacher and learned various things...

According to a quick Google search, if it starts with a vowel, just add "ay" to the end. If it starts with a consonant (or multiple consonants), move it/them to the end of the word, and add "ay." So "speak English!" becomes "eakspay Englishay!" I think those a...

Excellent :) There's been talk of setting up a wiki so people can work together on fleshing out a full guide like this... anyone following this thread know the status of it? That would be great. I'm not really familiar with how wikis work (though I've been to wikipedia.org)...so any of us would be ...

A couple notes... Set up your accounts 2. Say "the 'Adium' menu" or something instead of just "Adium" 5. You don't necessarily add @hotmail.com for MSN usernames. Your username is whatever email address you use for your MSN passport. It can be any email address, hotmail or otherw...

You'll have to be more specific. What do you do to make the gaim error occur?

Just double-click on Adium to open it. I think with the version you're running, nothing happens when you first open it, so you have to go to Prefs (on the "Adium" menu) --> Accounts pane, and click the + symbol in the lower-left to create a new account. Once you've created account(s), you ...

This type of thing is always going to be a problem (or at least a disputed topic) in a multi-protocol client. AIM focuses more on "online vs. offline" since they don't have any actual states other than away and invisible. MSN and Yahoo! focus on states, which include Away, Offline, Out to ...

The two main third-party IM clients for Windows are Gaim (http://gaim.sf.net) and Trillian (http://www.ceruleanstudios.com/). Gaim is GPL (free, open-source, etc., like Adium), while Trillian is closed-source and has both a freeware version and a better "pro" version that you can buy.

Yeah, so I see this as more a matter of practicality than of privacy. So I don't see why the feature shouldn't remain in Adium.

I think this was a useful feature in .7x though. We aren't necessarily talking about a screen lock feature, just the basic "hide windows while away" feature that AIM and Adium X .7x have...right?

I used Simple in .7x, but it isn't in the .8x betas so I've been using Mockie. I might go back to Simple/Simplicity though, we'll have to see.

Actually, you push the same number of keys either way, if you count shift-8 as pressing two keys: shift + 8 + ... + shift + 8 = 4 keys, plus your message /me + ... = 4 keys (slash, m, e, space), plus your message Some might find /me easier to type because there are no key combinations (i.e. shift + ...
