Yeah...keep in mind that some OSes are simply better-designed than others. While I'm not necessarily saying that this is the case with Windows vs. OS X, it's certainly possible. The Mac interface has always been known for its simplicity and user-friendliness.

About the MS Word vs. Windows things, yeah, I guess I was just using that as an example of something I dislike about Microsoft products in general. But Windows definitely seems to be designed for less computer-savvy people than OS X. Example: when you do a search for files on your hard drive, in the...

My personal explanation of why I dislike Windows (and Microsoft in general, excluding all monopoly/"evil empire" stuff, as you requested): With Windows I feel like the OS wants to run the computer for me. It sees me as someone who is privileged to be able to have Windows run their life for...

Whatever you do, don't switch back to AIM. If you can't use Adium, there are other good third-party clients out there, like Fire and Proteus (unless your problem occurs with them too). AIM is the devil.

I could swear this same question was asked not too long ago on the forums, but I can't find it. I see now that it pertains to shared folders. This feature currently isn't available in Adium (you can neither set a shared folder nor see others' shared folders). Come to think of it, I don't think I've ...

Have you let it completely index the logs? (If not, it should say "Indexing x of y logs" at the top of the Logger window.) I've encountered this problem before too, but I think normally it works pretty well for me. I just wish I could search for exact phrases instead of only single words.

Just to clear something up here (based on reading vernies_garden's post just now)...if a client, such as Yahoo! Messenger, doesn't have this feature, then we can't support it in any way, except between Adium users. We can't just implement something that magically reads the text field in the other pe...

Can't someone sue AOL based on the Internet Privacy Act of 1995? They're illegally eaves dropping on your private conversations. Next thing you know they'll be monitoring your e-mails. If they hadn't included this in their EULA, then maybe. But the point of a license agreement is that they can make...

I'm not sure exactly (I don't remember), but try looking on the View menu, if not the Contact List prefs. If those two don't work, it could be in the Advanced pane of the prefs.

Shouldn't that "Sticky" checkbox in the screenshot be checked, since arazer's goal is to make the Growl bubbles sticky?

Why not send us the reports...? If you're getting a persistent crash that can be reproduced, and you've already sent in a report or two about it (or, say, you know the devs are aware of it, or it's already been fixed in SVN), you wouldn't want to send another one. It would just be cumbersome to the...

I agree with the people who say this is scary. I definitely wouldn't want this implemented, though if it's a standard feature of IRC then maybe it should be. But I must say, 1985, I immediately wondered if your username should have been 1984, with ideas like that ;)

"The latest version" can actually mean a number of things, with a program like Adium. Look on the View menu...if there is any item called "Hide contact list groups," make sure it's unchecked. Otherwise, maybe it's an issue of Adium using a "cached" version of your buddy...

Yeah...AIM and ICQ are sort of the same network now, I think Adium just makes them separate account types to avoid confusion, since many ICQ users don't know that they are on the AIM network, and vice versa.

I had the same problem, with apps not being added to the pref pane. Eventually Adium added itself, but I'd like to add Colloquy as well. Colloquy already gives me Growl-like bubbles (I can only assume it's using Growl), but I'd like to see any available prefs for it too.

Your mention of the kids screwing around on that test reminds me of the STAR testing here in northern California. Once kids found out that it doesn't go on their personal record, half of them totally blow it off, usually by filling in the answer bubbles at random, or by making smiley face designs wi...

I know, I just meant take it out to see if it still messes up, in order to find out if that's the problem. If it is, then I agree that it does kind of defeat the purpose of your link, but such is life I guess :)
