Unless we (the Growl team) release an update and indicate otherwise, don't infer anything that others say, as they are usually going out of their way to accomplish something that we recommend not doing (as you already saw.)

We are trying to avoid needless complications and additional preferences. This smacks of 'smart' behavior to me and trying to guess what's appropriate or making a user fiddle to get the 'smarts' right isn't very good IMO.
