Re: Bug/Issue: Changes in Articles Are Not Recognized

There is a hidden preferences to enable this. Quit Vienna. Launch Terminal. Enter the following: defaults write uk.co.opencommunity.vienna2 CheckForUpdatedArticles -bool yes Please note that once you enable it, you may see constant updates in some feeds, because they are changing the article HTML or...

Re: Vienna crashing

[..] There's a hidden preference you can set in Terminal: defaults write uk.co.opencommunity.vienna2 MaxRefreshThreads -int 1 Thanks, this (seems to have) helped me, too, but I guess after just a few minutes it’s too early to be sure. Would you please also tell the code to increase Vienna’s load co...

Re: Vienna 2.5 sends invalid HTTP requests.

The errors have stopped appearing after I deleted the offending feeds and recreated them. Come to think of it, it may have been related to the script, mentioned in the thread about Vienna crashing on 301 or 302 result codes. I ran that yesterday to modify the urls in Vienna's sqlite db and it might...

Re: Vienna 2.5 sends invalid HTTP requests.

I can't reproduce this. A packet trace shows that my request is simply "GET /nexus/osx HTTP/1.1". Also my User-Agent is different, it includes "CFNetwork" at the end, after the "Vienna" section. Which version of Mac OS X are you using? Are you sure this isn't a privoxy ...

Re: Vienna crashing

If people want to post their crash reports, it may be informative for me to see whether they're all the same or if there are differences. I definitely encourage you to submit your crashes to Apple; the more reports they get, the more likely they are to take action. I haven't tried this myself, but f...

By the way, for those who are getting crashes on launch, run the Terminal application and enter the following:

Code: Select all

defaults write uk.co.opencommunity.vienna2 CheckForNewMessagesOnStartup -bool no

Code: Select all

defaults write uk.co.opencommunity.vienna2 CheckFrequencyInSeconds -int 0

Re: Vienna crashing

This is unfortunately an Apple bug, a regression in Mac OS X 10.6.3. I actually discovered the bug while working on another project, ClickToFlash. I've filed a report with Apple detailing steps to reproduce. The crashes seem to occur when URLs do HTTP 301 permanent redirect. To avoid the crashes, yo...

Re: Safari > Trash Cookies, Vienna > Refresh, ALL Cookies Reappe

Interesting, I can reproduce this on Mac OS X 10.6.2. It appears to be a bug in the Mac OS X cookie storage, not Vienna's fault. As a workaround you can do this: quit Vienna, delete cookies in Safari, quit Safari. In my testing, this makes the cookies disappear permanently. I'll file a bug with Appl...

Thanks for the tip Jeff! I have checked a change into SVN that should take care of that issue. I just wonder if it's OK to just use the mainWindow for all of them, or if it's smarter to create a dummy window for each one...
It appears to be ok to use the same window.

Re: Feed bug in 2.4 Beta

To clarify: in Vienna 2.3, if you got a new article, deleted it, emptied the trash, and then refreshed the feed again, the article would reappear. This was bad, and it no longer occurs in Vienna 2.4. However, Vienna 2.4 needs to build up its database of deleted articles. The first time you run Vienn...

Re: Feed bug in 2.4 Beta

This is only a temporary problem, and it should only happen at most once per feed, when it first has new articles.

Vienna 2.3 did not keep track of which articles have been deleted from a feed. Vienna 2.4 now does keep track, but the problem you're seeing is a one-time side effect of the new feature.

Re: search by author in Vienna 2.4b not working?

That's correct. This behavior hasn't changed in Vienna 2.4, it's he same as before. You can filter by author using a smart folder, though.

Re: 2.4 Hints and Requests

- If I typ sth. into the filter bar, the first available article gets selected automatically. This can be handy sometimes, but if the article is still unread, it will be marked as read, even if it's not the one I searched for. Even more important, if I continue typing and the selected article is no...

Re: Why doesn't Vienna remove an Image when you delete a feed?

This is because multiple feeds may share the same image. For example, if you have several feeds from CNN, they all use the same image.
