Is it possible to configure Adium so I can see when someone I am chatting with using Google Talk is typing (and they can see me typing)?
Note, I'm using Adium .89.1, with the account set up as Google Talk rather than Jabber. Also, it seems the people I am talking to cannot see that I am typing, even though in the Privacy preference pane I have allowed that feature.
This is a necessary feature for me, and unless I can get it working, I'll have to go back to Gmail's inline chatting functionality.
Seeing when a Google Talk friend is typing?

Please try the Adium 1.0 Beta at http://beta.adiumx.com. The necessary namespace support has been added and this should be working there.

Hmm, I don't like the way the beta looks as much as the current version (my icon -- which I don't want -- always next to my name in the contacts window, the minimal layout looks different, the lack of blue/maroon as a color choice, etc.). Will proper typing notification ever be added to the current line?
You *could* make a contact list style to match your tastes... I dunno, just a suggestion...classic695 wrote:Hmm, I don't like the way the beta looks as much as the current version (my icon -- which I don't want -- always next to my name in the contacts window, the minimal layout looks different, the lack of blue/maroon as a color choice, etc.). You can hide the toolbar in regular window mode my clicking the little pill-shaped button on the top right of the window.

When choosing the minimal layout for chat windows, as far as I could tell blue/maroon was no longer a color pair choice, and the other color pair choices like blue/green, etc. all looked more neon than before (is it not possible to choose our own color pairs?). It's back to the inline gmail chat for me.evands wrote:I'm not sure what you mean by the lack of blue/maroon as a color choice.
No other changes will be made to Adium 0.8x -- Adium 1.0 is the forthcoming release.
Sigh, a year and 6 months in the making and it comes down to a message style or contact list variant change?

http://adiumxtras.com has quite a few message styles. All the xtras in 1.0 were drawn from the popular ones there.classic695 wrote:When choosing the minimal layout for chat windows, as far as I could tell blue/maroon was no longer a color pair choice, and the other color pair choices like blue/green, etc. all looked more neon than before (is it not possible to choose our own color pairs?). This does not seem to allow me to change the color pair options for minimal_mod theme, which is what I'm trying to do.Tipo 61 wrote:You can also click the "Customize" button next to the Color Theme and List Layout in the Appearance preferences to make your own style...
Also, will it be possible to get the space for my icon (which I don't use) removed from the contact list header soon? If I select the "use none" option for an icon, the space for an icon should naturally disappear.
That icon space won't be removed. What if someone selects to use none and at a later date decides to use an icon?
If you don't like the icon you can use one of the other 4 Window Styles in the appearance preferences.
Regarding the problem setting things up how you like, try clicking the drop down for the theme/layout you want, and then clicking add new. I believe this will copy what you have and should resolve any sort of problems with an existing style.
If you still have problems, please post screenshots of what you are seeing, I think that would help with things.

Uh, then someone need only choose to use an icon in the preference panel and then the icon would show up again. I don't mean eliminate the space for the icon from the contacts list header, just eliminate the white square when the icon should be turned off. Also, the other contact list window styles disappear or work in an odd way when no contacts are online, so they don't work for me.The_Tick wrote:That icon space won't be removed.
