Zephyr Class/Instance support

Postby firimari » Thu Dec 09, 2004 5:54 pm

I'm new to the whole adium thing, but as I'm asking about zephyr, one might suppose I'm not new to instant messaging.
I think it's wonderful that Adium supports zephyr, and I have it up and running on my home computer.
My procedure:
Find zhm, conveniently included in the MacZephyr distribution from MIT.
MacZephyr installs ZHM in /usr/sbin on the first run, suid.
Start zhm with the name of your favorite zephyr server
/usr/sbin/zhm zephyr1.blah.blah.edu zephyr2.blah.blah.edu
Get edu.mit.Kerberos, edit it so that it points to your default Kerberos realm, and stick it in your /Library/Preferences
Start up /System/Library/CoreServices/Kerberos.app and log in to your kerberos realm
Start up Adium and add a zephyr account

Now I've figured out that to see people they have to be in my ~/.anyone, but I can't subscribe to classes and instances with ~/.zephyr.subs
Are they not supported yet, or do I not know what I'm doing here?

To be honest, i'm not sure we could tell you :P class/instance subscriptions are the multiuser chats, right? Try the File->Join Group Chat... menu option and see if that lets you use them.

Nobody on the dev team uses zephyr... so really to see improvements zephyr users will need to send in patches.
The duck still burns.

To really see some good zephyr support, it'd be cool if you could find a hacker at MIT who would be willing to work on it.

And for some reason, it now works. Go figure.

And MIT hackers suck. CMU rules, man. We have all the good zephyr/AFS hackers.

Just a *random* question but did you know Matthew Trentacoste while at CMU? He graduated last year from the undergrad program in CS.

No, I graduated in 1999. While I stayed on to work for a while, I didn't really meet any of the undergrads that would have graduated this year.
