Text Selection

In the message window, selecting text that has already been sent is inconsistent. The selection color will jump around and not respect where my cursor is. I am in 0.77 and 10.3.8, and this has been happening for months.

Think that's down to the message view. AFAIK, the text will select in the order it appears in the html - and due to CSS positioning, this is often not the order it appears on screen. What view are you using?

Good call. I am using Simple. My "variant" is "(Time) Name."

I don't seem to get the same problem, which is a little strange. It seems to select text in a manner consistent with where my cursor is...

My problem area is right near the colon in each line. Try selecting the Alias (if that is what you use) or the message, and make sure the colon is part of the selection. The selection jumps a few pixels. Awkward.

I've been annoyed by this for quite some time as well, but never posted about it since I figured it was just to do with how the HTML/CSS was setup, as SoaPM said.
I'm also using Simple (with Name (Time)).

Yeah, I see the problem now. I'll have a look at the html some time if I get chance, see if I can fix it.

Did you make Simple? Otherwise, thanks for fixing it!

Will someone reply to this topic when the bug is fixed? Thanks!

I know what the problem is (some bizarre margins), but I need to find the time to fix it, now
Be patient

Has it been fixed? Thanks for your time!

Yeah. Oops.
I've renamed it Simplicity, so it doesn't clash. Btw, in .8 this style won't be bundled!

Great and thank you! Does anyone else use Simple/Simplicity? I think it is very chic.

Simple is pre-installed with Adium, yes (is it the default message view?)? Perhaps Simplicity can replace Simple in the official 0.80 release.

I used Simple in .7x, but it isn't in the .8x betas so I've been using Mockie. I might go back to Simple/Simplicity though, we'll have to see.

Yeah, like I said earlier it's no longer in the .8 bundle. If things stay that way - I have no reason to believe they won't - I might post Simplicity on the Xtras site. Tbh, though, I think it's showing its age a little

I noticed that the selection isn't a rectangle, because it shortens a pixel around the Alias/Screen Name. I selected text in Simplicity and then used Apple's DigitalColor Meter.app to enlarge the selection.
Here is a screenshot of what I mean. Any way this can be fixed so selections make a perfect rectangle? This is with the default font and size. My friend uses a different font size and the same issue occurs.
Thanks!

Yeah, it can be fixed - if you use a smaller font size.

Lucida Grande 11 works well.
The way it's been designed means that the name/time text is a fixed size, while the message text size can be changed.
I could probably change it so that the two are linked - if you change the font or size the labels would follow suit... The only time it would be guaranteed to match up would be outgoing messages, though.
Do you care that much?

Well how difficult is it to do that? Could you bump up the Username/Alias/Time one pixel? I think that is reasonable, since I am using the Adium default font and font size. Thanks very much! Put it in 0.80!
