Everytime I open Adium and try to use it... it crashes. Any suggestions? I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling it, but no luck.

Reinstalling isn't likely to change anything, since nothing is changed within the application file itself. (By any chance, are you a switcher?)
What's more likely to be the culprit is your Adium 2.0 folder, located in ~/Library/Application Support/Adium 2.0. That contains all your settings, logs, etc. etc. Drag that onto the Desktop (so Adium can't find it anymore), launch Adium and see if that works. Then you can start dragging back the individual files that you want to keep; if Adium crashes, then you'll know one of those files was the culprit.

ohh thanks, i'll try that! I'm kind of a switcher... I switched to Adium like 6 months ago, I don't know why this is happening now... but yes, I'll try what you said. :]

Do I just leave that folder on the desktop now? It worked so far; Adium started over with its original defaults.

Are you using MSN and Adium X 0.89.1 (the one that's downloaded directly from the main Adium page)? If so, there's a known bug; you might want to try Adium X 1.0b22 (see
http://beta.adiumx.com); that might fix your problem. Make sure that you transfer your original Adium folder back so you can keep your settings and logs.
Btw, as long as you want to keep your old settings and logs (I like keeping my chat logs), you should keep that Adium folder; otherwise you can delete it.

No logs should be lost when upgrading to the beta version of adium.
The difficulcy with logging in the beta is that it uses a new format and changes all old logs to this new format so reverting back to the official release causes a problem with logging.
There is no need to back up your logs unless you expect to be returning to .89.

This isn't the MSN crash. This is a stacktraceless exception of unknown etiology... we really need to find someone unscared of using gdb (or following instructions in the terminal to do so) to hunt it down who is experiencing the bug.

I'm willing to do some debugging but I don't know how. If someone wants to hop on AIM and guide me through it, I'm more than willing. I'm already tired of using ichat
this error for reference:
Code: Select all
OS Version: Version 10.4.8 (Build 8L2127)
Language: en
Exception: NSInvalidArgumentException
Reason: *** +[NSArray arrayWithObject:]: attempt to insert nil
Stack trace:
EDIT: also, this only happens when i open an IM window. If I just stay on the contact list, it does not crash.

Please see
