What version of Adium are you using?

Pixels? AIM buddy icons have to be between 48x48 and 50x50 pixels. If you feed Adium an aniimated gif larger or smaller than that, it will get resized to the appropriate size and in the process will lose animation.
And loses transparency :P

Your version can't magically change. :)

for me some icons I set animate, and some don't. I did double check, they are all 50x50 (or 48x48 or... in the range of [48-50]x[48-50]).[/img]

xpander: Hm.. don't animate where?
axcess9: Could you look at file sizes for which ones do and don't work?

they seem to be a variety of sizes
4, 8, and 12KB

the ones that work are of 4 and 8KB. I got them from sites saying they were AIM buddy icons.

strangle, actually the info lists quite different numbers in bytes.

one that is 12KB is 4951 bytes
one that is 8KB is 6898 bytes...

I wish i could find exactly where i got them from.

edit:
actually i'm not sure what is going on now. I just quit and loaded the newest svn and two of the ones that i didn't think worked were loaded on sn's. Maybe it was a problem of updating the icons in my buddy list (which also happened to start behaving strangely: as in it wasn't removing buddies from the list as it disconnected and/or they disconnected).

Just asking cause I know this is not the case in the official client; is there any particular reason why Adium must disconnect to change buddy icon?

It did this to one of my AIM accounts untile just one of the recent builds. Anytime I edited any info in my account, it disconnected me.
