Crashing 30secs after opening

I started having problems tonight with Adium crashing. About 30 secs after I open it, it crashes. I submitted a error report thing. (email is voelker5 (at) msu.edu)

I just tried the trouble shooting tips on here, renaming the folder Adium 2.0 to Adium 2.0-old and then starting up, but the same thing happens after I connect to aim. I am stuck without Adium!! ahh!! heh I really love adium.

I can post the crash log if you like

thanks!

Oh, never told me about the Adium 2.0 thing…

Try deleting ~/Library/Preferences/com.adiumX.adiumX.plist

It has the same effect as moving it to the desktop

I was having the same problem with an older version and .77. I moved the adium 2.0 folder to the desktop and it worked again. I then moved all the files except Login Preferences.plist and the users folder and its still working so my guess is that there is a problem with one of those 2.

tried removing com.adiumX.adiumX.plist and the same thing happens. Crashes after about 30secs. Anything else I can try?

It seems like it may be trying to read someones away message or profile and they have 'Midnightblue' as a color not in hex format?

Here is the crash log:

OS Version: Version 10.3.8 (Build 7U16)
Exception: NSInternalInconsistencyException
Reason: -hexColor called on a string that cannot possibly be a hexadecimal color specification (e.g. #ff0000, #00b, #cc08); string: MidnightBlue

Fascinatingly, it appears that NSAssert to NSLog change never got merged into .7x. Lovely.

At revision 9930, adium-0.7:

Code: Select all

NSAssert1((hexStringLength == 3) || (hexStringLength == 4) || (hexStringLength == 6) || (hexStringLength == 8), @"-hexColor called on a string that cannot possibly be a hexadecimal color specification (e.g. #ff0000, #00b, #cc08); string: %@", self);
Your crash is fixed in .8. There's no workaround for .77 at present, sorry.

So, any idea when .8 will be released? Is there a beta ver. of .8?

thanks again

evands: so what is happening then? Does someone on my list have 'MidnightBlue' as a text color in their away message/profile and Adium can't handle that?

thanks

Yup. boredzo wrote code for .8 to read and handle all the colors listed in the file /usr/share/emacs/21.2/etc/rgb.txt, which has entries which look like this:

Code: Select all

=> cat /usr/share/emacs/21.2/etc/rgb.txt | grep MidnightBlue
 25  25 112             MidnightBlue

AH! Unneeded use of 'cat' :P

It could just be

Code: Select all

grep MidnightBlue /usr/share/emacs/21.2/etc/rgb.txt

That's like saying "Open this file, search the result."
My solution is like saying "search in this file."

FASTER! ;)
