Since a day or so I cannot connect to MSN anymore ... always get a error message:

Connection error from Notification server (messanger.hotmail.com) Writing Error
Any ideas ?

I was having the same problem but it now seems to be fixed as I managed to sign in about 5 minutes ago.
I'm certain it was an msn issue as i couldnt connect using any IM client apart from msn messenger itself :S

I've been having this problem for weeks. I've pretty much given up on signing in with it. I don't see any error messages (maybe I'm looking in the wrong place?) just an infinite amount of time connecting which never resolves. Password and username are correct.
I'm using messenger.hotmail.com:80 and the systemwide SOCKS5 proxy. Same problem occurs with no proxy. AIM and Yahoo, knock wood, are working fine. Any thoughts?

I've had the same problem too. Once Adium crashed and that fixed it :-)
If you're having any problems with Adium and MSN Messenger, try trashing ~/Library/Application Support/Adium 2.0/Users/Default/libgaim/
Seems to cure any connection problems for me.

Arenzara, thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately it didn't fix my MSN connection problems. Still have no problem connecting with AIM and Yahoo.

Archive (just incase it doesn't work) and trash your ~/Library/Application Support/Adium 2.0/Users/ folder.
I know you'll have to create everything again but it might work. If it doesn't, revert back to the copy of the folder you archived.
