Tabs are broken

Adium has stopped putting new conversations into tabbed windows correctly.

Some users will have a tab inserted into the same window as the first conversation. Others will create a new windows. I've been trying for a while and it doesn't appear to be consistent, with user combinations that all were in one window with tabs being in unique windows later.

Yesterday I finally finished and installed a message style I'd created. It was working fine. First thing I did today was to remove that and run Adium without it. That hasn't helped. I undid all of the tabbing options and redid them, but that didn't help. I also reinstalled Adium, but I haven't got back-up prefs to put in place (my bad).

Has anyone run into anything like this? Or are there any suggestions for other things to try? Thanks.

D'oh, just realized that this ended up in the wrong forum. Sorry.

just double-checking, is "Organize tabs into new windows by group" disabled in your prefs?

"Organize tabs into new windows by groups" was checked. Thanks. I can't remember where and how that happened.

Do we really need that pref?

Well, I don't use it, but I guess it's useful for people who keep their tabbed windows organized by groups.

It's for organizational freaks. :) It's up there with the "Sort tabs with the current sort options" checkbox -- for people who want their messages to be organized for them, I guess.

for the record: sort tabs according to sort prefs has been busted for some time now, and i've never got around to whining about it =)

for those of us organizational freaks ;) who sort manually, tabs get sorted properly within groups, but adium sorts the groups themselves according to some fairly arbitrary way in which they are stored on the AIM server, not the way in which they are manually sorted in adium. dunno if that'd be a quick fix or not. i'd certainly appreciate it =)

Yeah, it has been wonky for awhile. I've complained about this before, but then I believe the response from the devs was that it sorts by group as well; so if person A is the third person in the first group, and person B is the first person in the second group, B will come before A. Which sort of makes sense, but it's not the way I like it. :?
