Webcam and Live support

Hello all,

Guess this question has been raised many times in the past?

Is there planned support for the isight webcam in Adium? Surely its not that hard to implement?

I switched to MAC about two years ago and the two things that stop me from removing Windows totally are the Messenger and Outlook features.

Forget about connecting a MAC to an Exchange Server for email. Waste of time. Even with the new "Exchange" feature for Entourage and Mail its still cack!

Adium is probably the best messenger for MAC but its still lacking total compatibility with MSN. Most of the users around the world use MSN, sad but true. These days webcam and voice chat are two things that everyone wants.

Come on guys get coding get ripping and get the isight a voice support intergrated. At least for MSN!

Cheers,

Rob

Unfortunately it's quite the opposite. The companies that own the protocols keep their protocols secret, meaning for Adium to be able to send and receive an A/V signal from the service it would take a LOT of work. The developers of Adium currently don't have the resources.

Another mac IM program that can do video for MSN is mercury, link here: http://www.mercury.to/

Not true, MSN has only really gained major popularity in England. AIM is still tops in America and I think Yahoo is most popular in Japan if I remember rightly.

Well well, this A/V feature seems the hot request. While I have no idea how to help, my first guess is to seek help from those who have in part succeeded with other projects (aMSN, for example).

OK, I shut up.

You're right, it is. For full details you should see the FAQ that is linked at the top of this forum: http://forums.cocoaforge.com/viewtopic.php?t=9505 which has links to pertinent comments from the development team at the top regarding A/V.

I was just suggesting that, instead of splitting forces into different project, it would be smarter to join forces (Adium, aMSN, Mercury) - even while keeping the existing projects alive.

amsn is built on an older style codebase, and it is not possible to implement their features. Please do not take liberties assuming we are neglecting a hot request. We understand that everyone wants voice/video but it is not possible at this current juncture in time. Please take a look at the search function on the forums, this has been discussed over and over again.

I believe Microsoft is going to change/changed their Video codec.
And the gaim people are going to start cracking on it when that happeneds.
But I might be a little wrong.
The GAIM peps won't start on video for a while anyway, until they are finished with Gaim2.
