Adium 1.0 has the ability to put offline contacts into a separate, virtual group. This separates your online from your offline contacts.

I'm not referring to any functionality regarding aliases, I am only regarding to the separation of offline and online contacts.

Rather than approach each portion of the issue at the same time, I'd rather approach only one portion of the issue at a time. When responding, please take into consideration that this is not about aliases at this point, and only about the separation of offline and online contacts.

This is the specific item I am trying to address first:

So please, from the beginning, just this portion of the issue.
I agree that having the offline users in their own group is a good "separation" although this is a bit of a useless feature if you can't customise the display of each group individually - and I haven't found any way to do this yet. However, the different font colour between online and offline users is an equally good separator.

BUT, a downside with the online/offline group separation is that it totally messes up (in my eyes) the "Online / Total" user counter. If this is turned on, then you get, say, 8/8 for individuals and 0/20 for offline, whereas with this new separation disabled, you get 8/28 for individuals - which is a much more logical feature.
