AIM filetransfer woes. So does MSN filetransfer in 1.0

Hi,

I figured I might aswell start a new thread to fill this forum ;)

So, i'm using Adium 1.0 and OS X 10.4.8 on an Intel iMac Core Duo

Just the other day I got an incoming filetransfer on AIM. My friend was sending a folder with images with iChat(10.4.8-he always has the latest OS X) I accepted and it went through okay and started to transfer but around 2-3mb's into the transfer it suddenly stops without anyone of us doing anything. I have opened my ports for AIM. Later we tried to transfer via iChat(both of us using iChat) and of course it went through okay. Just to let you devs know that there are some things to iron out in 1.0. We didn't try just to send a zip file or equal to that on Adium but I would assume that it would have stopped too.

Also, one of my friends on MSN tried to send me a screenshot of his desktop using Miranda and I simply could not get it through. Adium accepted the file but stated: waiting to start - or similar. It just sat there. Most likely forever.

I rememeber being able to get transfers through on the MSN network with people using Miranda. What has changed with Adium 1.0 that won't allow this to happen ?

Another MSN issue that I have yet to confirm with Adium 1.0 because I can't get files through is this: Sending files using a direct connection to the MSN servers like Windows Live Messenger does, which makes filetransfers as fast as they can be. Is this something that Adium 1.0 can do? Because the last attempts with earlier Adium 1.0 beta releases has been nothing but successful, I mean the transfer stutters; It can only send chunks of a file not one continous stretch. And in incoming transfers are slow as molases(sp?). I don't have many friends on MSN that uses a Mac and Adium so these are all attempts with Live Messenger for Windows (the latest version I would assume)

I have opened the relevant ports on my Zyxel router for MSN. Right now I have opened all ports though just to test it out. I'm waiting for someone to come online so that I can test MSN filetransfers and AIM also.

These are my questions so far. I can supply further information if need be. I enjoy using Adium 1.0 and have been enjoying using the beta's aswell but these things keep me from using it daily. It's not like I REALLY need these features but it makes Adium a much more enjoyable experience if they did work. I hate having to logout all the time just to use iChat for transfers. One app for all my needs is what I prefer when it comes to IM'ing.

Thank you.

For the AIM transfer, IIRC, libgaim doesn't support sending folders quite yet... Give the .zip file a try...

Generally, file transfer issues are protocol side, not client side. The protocol is only a service used by the client, so Adium or the Adium devs can't really control how good or bad file transfers are.

Okay I can understand that, that it's a protocol issue. So there is really no way for the Adium devs to make Adium initiate direct connections(I believe this is what they are called on MSN aswell) to the MSN protocol? I may be missing some vital point here that's why i'm asking.

Thank you for answering.

There is no way for us to direct connect over MSN. Even if modern real versions of MSN use it, we have no access to those and are sadly stuck using work arounds. The gaim team plans to work on it, but no promises are made.
