[Dangerous] Adium 1.0 destroys some applications

Post by Tom K. »

I thought it was kind of weird that when I mounted the Adium 1.0 disk image, my old Adium application was cleaned out and its size made 0 bytes.

Then I realized that Adobe Photoshop CS3, Address Book, and Apple Script were the same way. Coincidence?

(The new Adium binary is already in place in the screenshot above.)

This should be a warning to the devs to fix whatever alias or automatic script or whatever it is that's wiping stuff out in /Applications. I've been using Macs for well over a year, and I'm no nublar when it comes to computers. I would notice if there was something on my system wiping out applications.

Fortunately for me, Address Book, Photoshop CS3, and AppleScript are replaceable.

There is no way that Adium could do this.

I'm tempted to believe that myself, but it doesn't explain why these apps were working yesterday evening, and today at school I break out the new Adium disk image, mount it, and suddenly my old Adium turns into the generic application icon.

It's pretty funky.

Have you run Disk Utility on your drive? If copying over Adium suddenly erases several apps, I'd point the finger at the OS and hard drive...

Until you provide definitive, and not anecdotal, evidence then yes.
Try my software!

#define ADIUMX pimp //by me
#define QUESTION ((2b) || (!2b))
Have you hugged a programmer today?

This hasn't been directly addressed, but I believe it is important to do so:

There is no automatic script of any sort which runs when the Adium disk image is downloaded, mounted, or otherwise used. (I'm not aware of any way to create one, for that matter).
The duck still burns.
