I am new to having a mac. How do I get to the preferences of Adium? When I sign on, the buddy list shows immediately... and I dont see a way to get to the preferences.

In the menu Adium>Preferences. Pretty much every app in OS X has their preferences in the same place and with the same shortcut - Cmd+,
