How do I hide instant messages while I'm away?

I am confused. I change my status to "away" in Adium, but I still get instant messages from people popping up on my screen.

In aim when you set your status to "away" it hides all of your instant messages until you come back. That way when you're away you aren't bothered by people chatting with you, but when you're available again you can review all the messages you got when you were away.

Does Adium have this feature? Please help.

No, we do not have the option to hide windows when away, if you do not like this you could set Adium to hide when it is not the active application.

not that it actually matters, but i think this would be a much better way of doing things. i'd rather come back to my computer with the Adium dock icon or the contacts that have sent messages flashing in the contact list, saying how many messages I have, rather than just showing the window.

Sometimes it matters, but many people also like it as it is. As more people get broadband they like to stay away even as they chat.
