when i try to change my font color of my text display in my preferences nothing changes. however when i click the font color icon it appears as if it should be working. the color is set to what i chose. what can i do to make it show up in my IMs?

I am having that problem to. Can someone please help us?

Does the font color ever work; i.e. does it work and then disappear after one message?

Sometimes you might think the font panel is working when it's not. Try systematically opening a message window, type Cmd-T to access the font panel, click the color button, click a color, click the text box, and try typing. That doesn't work at all?

I tried that and it again went back to black!

Wait. I'm asking if that worked at all... if it DID work once and then it went back to another color, the next time you change your font color you should choose "Save This Setting As My Default Font" on the Font panel.

I did this and it worked, but it only saved the font type and size, not the color.

It works once and then goes back to black.

Are you sure you clicked the "Save Setting" button?

Try quitting Adium and deleting the file Home > Library > Application Support > Adium 2.0 > Users > Default > Formatting.plist and see if that helps things. Keep in mind that it will reset your font choices.
