File transfers not an option?

Post by TimL »

Hey All,

I'm far from a network poweruser, so I'm just looking for reasons why I can't file transfer when logged in using my Yahoo and Gmail accounts.

I can't seem to find a preference to set/change or would it have to do with corporate firewalls or ports not being open?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Tim

Sadly, Yahoo and XMPP file transfer are both highly unreliable (at best) in Adium. Gtalk also has a different file transfer method that was proprietary until very recently, and will require a very large amount of work to implement.

Grrrr... OK thanks for the prompt reply though! I'm definitely not the first to say it would be great to have it all under one roof in the future.

Love Adium otherwise though. The duck rules.

Necropost!

I searched for "file transfer" topics within the last year and found only one, which wasn't as related to my problems, so I went back to All Results, and, well, here I am, updating a two year old thread, wondering why we still don't have file transfer working fully. If it is in fact working for other Yahoo users, then I'd like to chat a bit and see what I'm doing wrong.

Up until (I think) 1.3.5, I could at least receive files from other Yahoo users. Now I cannot receive or send at all.

Adium 1.3.5

U are not alone in this.
I have exactly the same problem. And many others.

I'm running osx 10.4.11 and i just got Adium 1.3.5 version.
I cannot send or receive files (altho untill the last version i could, some of the times, kinda worked when it wanted)
I cannot see an updated avatar with yahoo only after logging in and out a few times (alltho my msn one shows it changed)
I cannot uninstall adium (whipe it clean of the face of my mac) and re-install it freshly, it keeps all of my settings from previous instalations and it has the exact same bugs. Am i doing something wrong there? Is there another place i have to delete it from? The cookies, the cache? what ...

Yahoo updated their protocol. While 1.3.5 fixed connectivity it lacks some other fixes made since addressing at least some of these issues. I'm afraid I don't know when 1.3.6 will be released, though.
