Zooming IM window text

Both outgoing and incoming text in my IM windows are unusually tiny. Both my recipients and I use 8/10pt fonts, which show up at larger sizes on AIM on Windows, but look like 6pt fonts in Adium. (Using 1280x1024 screen resolution on both)
I'm not sure why it's behaving this way, and I can't seem to find any 'text zoom' function like what AIM on Windows has (which zooms locally without making the recipient's text ridiculously big). Any ideas?
