iTunes and Eight Note symbol

I use the /iTunes script for showing my status message and during chats. The problem is, I modded it to show the eighth notes instead of [current song: ], but when i type /iTunes or my status message, it shows '?' But, if I copy paste it into the chat field, it shows correctly. Any idea how to get this to work?

Applescript might be choking on the Unicode eighth notes.
