Adium not being able to log into AIM? (proxy is present)

Post by bborigun »

Hi all,
I was wondering whether this is a known issue or not, but recently I've been trying to connect to my AIM(.mac, actually) account on Adium (1.0.2)... and it will say "Connecting",

....and it just stays like that for ever.

I don't think it's the network, really. I have to go through proxy and I kinda have to use Authoxy with it. Connecting to AIM on iChat works fine, though I have to change the port to 80.

Is there any way to solve this problem? :???:
(I swear I used the same settings :P)
Thanks in advance.

What are the "same settings"?

same settings... such as login server+port, telling it to connect through authoxy, etc.

Oh, I thought you were aware of the app called "Authoxy".. should've explained earlier.
It's an app which enables Mac to automatically authenticate to the proxy server (inside university or college for example).
Other technical things were quite complicated to me.

Below is what the website of the product says:
If your Internet connection requires you to use a proxy which needs a username and password, Authoxy may be the solution to a seamless Internet experience. Authoxy runs locally as a proxy server to intercept HTTP and HTTPS requests, forwarding them on to your regular proxy with authentication details you define in a System Preference Pane. Such a process is required to use many web services (MacHelp, QuickTime, iTunes) behind a proxy requiring authentication.
Basically, without this app (connecting to proxy server directly from System Preferences) I can use internet but cannot use any other things such as iTS in iTunes, iChat, Quicktime, Apple Mail and so on.

Adium has support for HTTP proxy servers with authentication - have you tried having Adium do the HTTP connection directly?
