Adium Stay Logged in After Sleep?

Confused about what this guy on another forum said about Adium in a thread about IM apps.
One small drawback I found with Adium compared to Fire: It doesn't recognize impending sleep mode and log you off. So people were still sending me messages, thinking I was getting them, long after I'd closed my PB and walked out of the office with it.
How is that even possible if there is no internet connection, wouldn't adium disconnect when it's 'unplugged' from the network?

I ask because i'd like to rebuke his argument ;)

Hmm.

I don't know which Adium does, but there are two possible behaviours.

1. You are logged out of instant messaging services upon putting the computer to sleep.

2. Your internet connection is yanked from your IM app while you are still logged in; thus, instant messaging services still show you as online until their specific timeout period has elapsed and you default to offline.

I know, for instance, that if your computer crashes while you're signed into Yahoo with the official client, it'll show you as online until you've gone through a full connect/disconnect cycle. So potentially you could be signed on forever.

The poster appears to be suggesting that Fire does the former, and Adium does the latter. I don't honestly know. :)

Adium and Fire use the same Apple API to be notified of the system being about to sleep; both programs disconnect you from services before logging you out.

One possible bug which just occurred to me, however, is that since our services are threaded, it would be possible for the disconnect message not to actually be processed before the system goes to sleep. I'll look into that.
