Using MSN for Yahoo Can't see Adium

Post by Jas »

Odd question I guess. I have a friend who is using MSN Messenger on Windows and just set it up for her Yahoo account as well. She can see my MSN account fine but my Yahoo account only shows as offline unless I use the Official Yahoo Messenger.
The notifications to add the Yahoo ones only showed up when i logged in with Yahoo. The MSN ones showed up in Adium. I tried using both 1.0.3 as well as the 1.0.4b4.
Not that big a deal to me as I just talk to her through MSN then but i thought it was odd.

Adium doesn't support the yahoo/msn combination thing that was recently created by the two companies. That's probably why

Gotcha ..so that is why only my MSN account is showing for her online and she doesn't show on Yahoo for me since she is actually logged into MSN. makes sense ..Thanks!

Hello,
Do you know if one day Adium will support the Yahoo/MSN combination ?
And if yes, do you have an idea of when ??

Thanks

@CKid:
I'm sure it will happen one day, but certainly not anytime soon.
Basically it depends on libpurple, the library Adium uses for all the network connections etc. Once libpurple supports it, it's also supported by Adium. But since libpruple already supports MSN and Yahoo, although only as separate accounts, the developers have other prioritys.

There actually is a "Google summer of code" project for implementing MSNP 14 in libpurple. I'm not sure if this covers the MSN/ Yahoo connection. But even if it did, i guess it would take at least one year from now on until it finds its way into a public Adium release.
