Not something I would include in Adium by default though. Good target for an external plugin.

Ive had one single spam message in 10 years, and thats on the 4 major networks... Is this really needed? Using the block list would be better...

A filter for swearing would be cool though. Maybe Adium should have some parental controls in 2.5? ^^

well, this is for all you people out there saying you have never gotten any spam.

GOOD FOR YOU.

Up until last week, I was in the same boat, none. Well that all changed the other day and won't stop! I receive about 200 or more messages a day from some spam bot. I have tried blocking all the SN's but there are just waaaay too many, there must be 10,000 AIM names for this bot.

I have contemplated giving up my SN and getting a new one, but thats just not fair, how can this be the solution? I have had my name for over 6 or 7 years now, everyone knows it.

For all of you saying that this isn't necessary, you will change your mind when you get in the situation I am in.

Cussing?? Common, grow up, who gives a shit.

This is rather silly

You want others to not ignore or downplay YOUR problem yet you downplay their problem/request. Seems rather uneven, and as to your above comment, for those with children (myself not included) filters for profanity as well as other parental controls are quite important.

So in summation... why don't you grow up? :)

EDIT: and yes, I realize getting the spam sucks, as does your situation, but that doesn't make your comment any more warranted.

well, I see your point there, but I don't think children should be chatting away on the internet at freewill. Therefore, I don't see the point for children. When they do get old enough to chat on the internet at free will, they should be old enough to understand cuss words.

I understand some people take huge offense to cuss words, and I think this is a more warranted argument. I am not trying to downplay the need for this feature, I actually think its great, but his comment pissed me off, hence my reply.

Hmm… what do you define as a child?

Since I am thirteen, this may apply to me :D

well, I think by the age of 13 you should know just about every cuss word in the book, and hearing one isn't going to turn you into a bad person.

Thanks my take on it. But, lets get back to SPAM GUARD, I am going insane over here, does anything have any suggestions or solutions to this issue, getting 200 or mre spam messages a day is annoying to say the least!

You can set your privacy settings in an official client to "Only Allow Users on my Buddy List"

This will block everyone who is not on your list, including every one of the robots.

If you set this option in the official client, Adium will respect and use it.

I mean, thats kinda nice, but that means no one else can contact me. I use my SN for alot of business so its important that people can get in touch when needed.

I would code something myself if I knew how, but that isn't my field of expertise unfortunately.

No, this thread (and others) is a testament to the fact that they annoy many. That said, it doesn't mean a solution will be forthcoming anytime soon (or is even planned.)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but when somebody (like your business associate) adds you to his/her list, you get a dialog asking whether to allow seeing you. Even though the approach is a bit different, I believe it should solve your spam problem?

Would it be okay for a ticket to be filed? It could just be filed for "Visited sometime in the future" or whatever that milestone is called.

You're welcome to file a ticket, that's what they're there for :)

What I meant is that it should have a future and not die at the hands of the first ticket-controlling dev that sees it! ;)
