Show recent Messages in new chats...

In Adium 1.0 I was able to choose how many old Messages would appear when I start a new chat.
In 1.1b2 this option seems to be gone. Now I can only choose whether recent messages should be displayed or not. I only get the last 5 Messages (which was the default value in 1.0)
The problem is, that in many cases the last messages are like
Person 1) ok, i've got to go now
Person 1) see you later
Person 2) so long
The point of displaying the last messages is, that you know where or how you endet the last Conversation, and continue it if the last topic was not finished.
But if most of the displayed messages only contain a polite (but useless) bye-bye-ceremony, then they aren't needed at all. For that reason it would be very good to be able to display more than only 5 messages.
It would be really sad, if that useful preference option would be gone in 1.1.

It's unlikely to come back; In order to move the setting where people could actually find it, we had to compact some stuff. We're also attempting to remove preferences where possible just to keep complexity under control.

It was also a culprit of performance issues.

Could we have it bumped to say, 10 lines?

Let's leave it at five and see if anyone else complains.

Consider this another complaint.
I liked having it at the maximum, actually; I never found it to cause major performance issues, though I can see on slower machines how that might be the case.
It seems like it would be relatively straightforward to have it in the general prefs, but as "show [X] recent messages in new chats", where [X] is a popup or a little text box...

Consider this another complaint. I also had Adium set to the maximum and did not experience any noticeable performance issues.
I use Adium for customer support and this is a huge issue to have such limited history displayed.

How many lines did you have it set to? If you want to read the entire conversation, why not open the log?

I believe 99 was the max. If so, that's what I had it set to.
I can think of three good reasons to allow the user to display more of a history in the chat window:
1) Convenience factor. As soon as someone initiates a chat I can see previous conversations, without clicking any buttons.
2) Multiple users at once. The log viewer only displays the history for a single user -- and I typically have multiple chats going on at the same time.
3) Multiple conversations at once. The log viewer only displays a single conversation, whereas displaying 99 previous entries in the chat window allows easy viewing of previous conversations that took place over multiple sessions.
Thanks for considering these points.

Actually 3 is not true; try selecting multiple log files at once.

I think I used it at 15 or 20 messages.
I also have a lot of combined contacts, Adium chooses what history to show in some criteria that I didn't catch. Sometimes I'm chatting in Gtalk, close the window and as I come back the last lines are from MSN conversation 2 days ago...
Please, set it fixed to 10 (I understand the need of cleaness) or user choice.
Last resort, can you document a hidden var here?

Evan readded it to general preferences, today, with a maximum of 99.
