Invisible Mode

I wanted to sign in as invisible mode (clicked on invisible under my status) but somehow the dock icon show the away status & people can actually chat with me. It seems to appear that my invisible mode = away mode. I have tried reinstalling everything but the problem still persists.

Anybody has any idea why is this so?

Some IM services don't actually support an invisible mode so Adium does the nearest thing and sets your status to away.

This is the case for GTalk for example (and perhaps other Jabber services?)

But previously I was able to appear as invisible... Now I cant.

Well, what service are you running? GTalk? AIM?

it happenss to me as well. I'm using netPassport account, invisible sometimes works and other times people just see me and talk to me.
